Antidote

beabadoobee sits in Antidote’s top spot this week with “Beaches”, from her just-released album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves. It’s a freeing, confessional slice of pop rock that reminds us to embrace the power of today. “I wrote ‘Beaches’ because of how terrified I was getting into this,” beabadoobee tells Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about recording her third full-length in California with producer Rick Rubin. “I am the sort of person that values feeling comfortable, loyalty and trusting people around me—not changing a lot of things. But I would’ve been an idiot if I had said no. I remember my boyfriend said, ‘Are you crazy? You have to go [to Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios].’ That’s literally what this song is all about.” Between long lunches and breaks in the studio’s rec room to play pool, the Londoner eventually found her happy place at the famed Malibu ranch. “Honestly, the live room is so special,” she says. “I got so excited, but also terrified, every time I had to play guitar in there. But when you do a vocal and play some guitar, it feels like you’re meant to be there.” Hear “Beaches” now, plus essential new tracks from Rex Orange County, Fontaines D.C., Nilüfer Yanya and Aziya. Like all those artists, Antidote is always evolving—so keep checking back, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
