Today’s Country

Made by These Moments, the new album from The Red Clay Strays, pulls off a difficult feat: The Southern rock band and producer Dave Cobb managed to capture the infectious, unbridled energy of the band’s live show, something especially evident on the raw and soulful ballad “Wanna Be Loved”. They chose to record the album together in one room instead of tracking each part individually, with lead singer Brandon Coleman telling Apple Music the process felt much more authentic to their shared ethos. “You're trying to capture emotion in that room, and that should be the heart of it,” he explains. “And so that's how we do it now, is we set up and we play together. Compared to how we started off in the studio, it doesn't even feel like recording, really, because we're just sitting around playing music, and there's microphones recording us. That's what gets captured, is that emotion and that chemistry we have.” This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges.
