The son of rap star Lil Durk reportedly shot his stepfather during a dispute with his mother.
Surveillance footage from a doorbell cam shows a man and a woman embroiled in a physical conflict on the sidewalk outside of a home.
The stepdad, Joshua Pippens, is seen in orange while the mother is in purple. A dispute erupted between them on July 1 that escalated into violence.
At some point, the boy — who is outfitted in a red t-shirt and matching shorts — manages to get Pippens’ handgun out of his holster and points it at the father to protect his mother.
The video then cuts to the street, where it appears that Pippens is restraining the mother. Lil Durk’s son then aims what appears to be a gun at Pippens.
Suddenly, a single shot rang out. Pippens fell to the ground.
Pippens has spoken to his Instagram followers about the incident from his hospital bed.
“As y’all can see I was not the aggressor,” Pippens wrote. “And y’all also can see how I still had my gun on my hip. He grabbed my gun off my hip following his mom’s lead and tried to shoot me — and then actually shot me.”
“My gun was on my hip and I was trying to protect myself from getting shot,” he explained.
Pippens added that “I still love him like” Lil Durk’s son was his own child.
The stepfather told his IG followers the dispute was over custody rights regarding their daughter.
“Listen, nobody is going to jail, or they would already be there. I’m doing this for rights over my kids. Call me what y’all want. And on top of that, this was at my momma’s, in front of my momma, granny and more kids. I pray y’all make it through y’all situation that God gon’ put y’all through for playing with me,” he added.
He then lashed out at critics who claimed he deserved the repercussions for assaulting the mother.
Lil Durk has yet to speak publicly about what has reportedly happened.
