About

Genius Annotation

Being under a minute long, “Trouble” serves as a plot point in the album, reinforcing the relationship between Eminem and his alter-ego Slim Shady.

Slim Shady embodies shock and horror, with his identity fuelled by hair bleach and vodka, hence why their dialogue opens with Shady forcing Eminem to consume alcohol. Reluctant to drink, Eminem appears to lose control of Shady who goes on a rampage of hate with no fear of getting cancelled.

The track closes with a thought-provoking claim; as much as Eminem resents Shady, they seem to need each other to succeed, forming a symbiotic yet toxic relationship. After all, Eminem hadn’t achieved the stardom fame until he adopted the Slim Shady persona and put out The Slim Shady LP in 1999.
