Donald Lawrence is a renowned American gospel music songwriter, record producer, and artist. He began his musical journey studying at the Cincinnati Conservatory, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music. During his time in Cincinnati, he also served as the Minister of Music at the Southern Baptist Church on Reading Road.

Lawrence took over as the musical director for The Tri-City Singers after a friend vacated the position. The group, named after the three cities of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Gastonia, North Carolina, and Charlotte, North Carolina, debuted in 1993 with the album “A Songwriter’s Point Of View,” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top Gospel Charts. The Tri-City Singers released several successful albums under Lawrence’s direction, including “Bible Stories” in 1995, which featured hits like “A Message For The Saints” and “I Am God.” They continued to produce popular albums, such as “tri-city4.com” in 2000, which reached #2 on Billboard’s Top Gospel Charts.

Donald Lawrence has collaborated with numerous artists across genres. He was the vocal coach for the R&B group En Vogue, the musical director for Stephanie Mills, and worked with gospel legends such as The Clark Sisters, Kirk Franklin, and Karen Clark Sheard. He also produced Karen Clark Sheard’s Grammy-nominated debut album, “Finally Karen,” in 1997. Lawrence and The Tri-City Singers are known for their dynamic live recordings, including the album “Finale,” which was recorded live in Atlanta and featured guest artists like Walter Hawkins, LaShun Pace, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. Lawrence has received multiple Grammy and Stellar Awards throughout his career for his contributions to gospel music.
