Dave Blunts

AKA: Davion Blessing

About Dave Blunts

Davion Blessing (born July 1, 2001), known professionally as Dave Blunts, is a rapper, singer, and songwriter born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but is currently residing in Davenport, Iowa since the age of three.

In an interview with No Jumper, Dave explained on how he got the stage name, stating:

My Facebook kept getting banned and I kept getting reported and shit. So, I just had to keep making random names and once day I was smoking a blunt and making a Facebook, and I was like “Shit, Dave Blunts.” And I was uploading music to Facebook, so it just kind of stuck.

Through an interview with Sheesh Media, Dave started making music at the age of six but started to take music seriously at the age of eighteen after quitting his job to make music full time. From there, Dave would start to gather a fanbase in Mexico, after posting meme images of himself through Facebook and posting his earliest music through that page. In an interview with Complex, Dave recalls the first time ever recording music, stating:

I’ve always wanted to make music, but I never had the resources to do so. There are studios in my town, but they’re expensive and not even legit. So one day I was hanging out with my friend and we went to his friend’s house who had a studio in his basement. I’m like, “Well shit, let me fuck around and make a song,” and that shit was good. After that, I would make music on my fucking Android phone with Dollar Store headphones and shit.

Further going through the interview with No Jumper, Dave confirmed that in November 2022, he did quit music and deleted all of his catalog, resulting in his earliest material being lost media, but a handful have survived via snippets through his Facebook page. Dave would also throw away his studio equipment, but has since been recovered from his mother after receiving motivational advice and through fans begging him to come back to making new music.

After had returning into making music, Dave would then release his debut EP, Bigger Than I Ever Was on October 12, 2023.

Taking a glance at his music, Dave is known to be very comedic with his lyrics, using slurs, dark humor, and outrageous titles throughout his songs and projects, as well as introducing “characters” such as Madison, Julian, Jayce, Abigail, Matthew, and many more. Through the same interview from Sheesh Media, Dave soon plans to go in depth with the characters he mentions throughout his songs, but through an interview with Kids Take Over, Dave explains the lore behind some of the people throughout his songs, most notably Madison, Abigail, and Julian. Continuing to dig deeper in the Complex interview, Dave confirmed that moving forward he would not be giving up on using Madison, Abigail, and Julian’s names in his songs, although he would continue to drop names from other people Dave knew in his life.

Entering into 2024, Dave would go onto release three projects in the span of February and March. In April, while sharing a snippet of his song “THE CUP,” rapper Lil Yachty would co-sign Dave, to which his popularity would skyrocket through the underground scene.

From there, songs such as “Talking To The Sun,” “The Cup,” “CRYING IN THE KITCHEN,” and “Purple Stuff” would take off from his catalog, which resulted in Dave getting more co-signs from the likes of ericdoa, ilykimchi, BLP Kosher, SZA, and many more. He would soon get signed to LISTEN TO THE KIDS shortly after, although Dave claimed that he would be signing to a new label after “going broke and only had $60 left in his bank account,” to which it would turn out to be a joke after revealing that he had stayed with LISTEN TO THE KIDS.

On the song “Purple Stuff,” Dave announced that he would be releasing three other projects within 2024, as he states:

I might fuck around and drop six albums all in one year

Dave would end up keeping his promise, with the release of his debut studio album and his fourth release of 2024, Well Dude Here’s My Thing on June 28, 2024. Continuing to keep his end of the promise, he is now expected to drop a sophomore studio album in the same year, although it was originally announced that a deluxe to Well Dude Here’s My Thing would be releasing but was shelved instantly.

In August 2024, Dave Blunts would go onto collaborate with LISTEN TO THE KIDS signee ericdoa, on an upcoming song off Eric’s third studio album, LOCKED IN.
