Kopech earned a hold against the Brewers on Monday, walking one batter and striking out two in a scoreless inning. Kopech handled the eighth frame and worked around a two-out walk to keep Milwaukee off the scoreboard. He earned his fourth hold in six appearances since joining the Dodgers on July 29. Kopech has yet to allow a run over 6.1 innings with his new team, and he's surrendered just one hit while posting a 10:1 K:BB. The righty reliever has quickly become Los Angeles' top setup man, but it's unclear if he'll get any save opportunities after working as the White Sox's closer for most of the season prior to being dealt.
Ohtani went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional run during Monday's 5-2 win over the Brewers. Ohtani notched his 36th home run of the year Monday, taking Freddy Peralta yard in fifth inning to extend the Dodgers lead to 4-0. In his last 16 games, Ohtani has lifted six homers with 11 runs and 12 RBI while logging almost as many walks (10) as strikeouts (12).
Betts went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an RBI single during Monday's 5-2 win over the Brewers. Despite spending nearly two months on the injured list due to a fractured left hand and not going on a rehab assignment, Betts didn't show any rust Monday. Instead, he clubbed a two-run homer off Freddy Peralta in the third inning and plated Shohei Ohtani on a single in the seventh. Betts is slashing .307/.406/.498 with 11 homers across 335 plate appearances.
Kershaw (1-2) picked up the win Monday against Milwaukee, allowing one run on three hits and two walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out six. Though Kershaw was pulled after 83 pitches and hasn't surpassed 85 pitches since being activated from the injured list July 25, he went deeper than five innings for the first time. The veteran left-hander's lone run allowed came after he was removed, when Joe Kelly surrendered a home run to William Contreras that plated inherited runner Jackson Chourio. Kershaw has struck out five or more hitters in three of four starts this season and has yielded one run in back-to-back appearances. He's tentatively scheduled to close out a two-start week Saturday at St. Louis.
Heyward is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers. When healthy, Heyward has occupied the strong side of a platoon in right field throughout the season, but he looks set to move into a pure bench role with Mookie Betts (hand) making his return from the injured list Monday. Though Betts had started exclusively at shortstop and second base prior to landing on the shelf, he'll take on full-time duties in right field moving forward with the Dodgers soon expected to get Max Muncy (oblique), Tommy Edman (wrist) and Chris Taylor (groin) back as options in the infield. Even though he's mostly been shielded from same-handed pitching this season, the lefty-hitting Heyward has produced a weak .665 OPS over 191 plate appearances. With his playing time likely to be sparse moving forward and Heyward offering meager value defensively or as a baserunner at this stage of his career, he could be at risk of losing his spot on the roster once the Dodgers get some of their injured players back.
Kiermaier will start in center field and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Brewers. Kiermaier will occupy center for the fifth time in six games, with two of his starts coming against left-handed pitching. The Dodgers seem to be favoring Kiermaier over Andy Pages at the moment, with the former's superior defense giving him the edge in playing time while the latter has been slumping at the plate. Kiermaier is batting just 1-for-13 with six strikeouts since joining the Dodgers at the trade deadline and is slashing .188/.233/.296 on the season, so fantasy managers likely won't be able to extract much value from him even if he continues to play ahead of Pages.
Pages is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Milwaukee, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports. Pages is coming off one of his better games in a while, having reached base four times in Sunday's win over the Pirates. Nevertheless, he will begin the series opener versus the Brewers on the bench, marking the third time in four games that he has exited the lineup against a right-hander. Kevin Kiermaier will get the nod in center field and may represent the Dodgers' preferred option at the position.
