Rumph sustained a foot injury in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports. Rumph played 19 snaps (12 on defense, seven on special teams) in Saturday's contest. Rumph is expected to "miss some time," but when he will return to practice remains unclear. The 2021 fourth-rounder out of Duke finished with five tackles (four solo) across six regular-season games for the Chargers in 2023.

Latest Chargers News
Chris Rumph : Nursing foot injury
Rumph sustained a foot injury in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports. Rumph played 19 snaps (12 on defense, seven on special teams) in Saturday's contest. Rumph is expected to "miss some time," but when he will return to practice remains unclear. The 2021 fourth-rounder out of Duke finished with five tackles (four solo) across six regular-season games for the Chargers in 2023.
Isaiah Wooden : Joins Chargers
The Chargers signed Wooden on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Wooden was waived by Atlanta less than two weeks ago, and he's already found a new home with the Chargers. The Chargers have one of the weaker wide receiver rooms in the league, so he has as good of a chance of earning reps with them as he would with any other squad.
Ladd McConkey : Dresses, doesn’t play Saturday
McConkey (undisclosed) dressed for Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks but did not play any snaps, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. McConkey has been dealing with an undisclosed lower body injury at training camp, and though he dressed for action Saturday, the rookie second-round pick was ultimately kept off the field. Though McConkey was in uniform to warm up Saturday, he changed to street clothes before kickoff. McConkey's next chance to take the field and handle exhibition reps will come Saturday at home against the Rams, but it remains to be seen whether the 34th overall pick will be fully cleared by then.
Hayden Hurst : Doesn’t bring in lone target
Hurst did not catch his lone reception in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss against the Seahawks. Backup quarterback Easton Stick threw a woefully errant first-half pass to Hurst, who valiantly tried to make a stupendous catch only to be decimated by an incoming defender, popping the ball up in the air for an interception. The veteran did linger on the ground for a bit after the play, but was able to jog off on his own. Hurst is expected to work in tandem with fellow free-agent addition Will Dissly to operate as a multi-faceted platoon tight end group with the 6-foot-8 Donald Parham also mixing in on occasion.
Kimani Vidal : Kept out of preseason opener
Vidal, who participated in warmups, was held out of the team's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks on Saturday, Daniel Popper of The Athleticreports. It's not clear why the coaching staff decided to have Vidal, and 2024 second-round pick Ladd McConkey (lower body), participate in pre-game warmups, but then not have either player in uniform during the game. Given the Chargers' offensive struggles, particularly on the ground (50 yards on 15 designed carries), it's entirely possible Vidal could see substantial playing time in the coming weeks, but it's also worth noting Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins were also held out of the preseason opener despite zero health concerns to date.
DJ Chark : Struggles in preseason loss
Chark did not catch any of his three targets in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks. The Chargers' offense was painfully bad in the first half as they put together just one drive with more than five plays. With the majority of the expected starters all held out for precautionary reasons, the veteran was featured heavily in the first couple of possessions, but quarterback Easton Stick's inaccuracies proved too difficult to overcome for Chark. Expect the 27-year-old to receive extensive work throughout the preseason as the team sorts out the expected wide receiving corps behind obvious starters Joshua Palmer and Ladd McConkey.
Jaret Patterson : Tallies 42 yards in preseason loss
Patterson carried the ball seven times for 38 yards and also caught one of his two targets for four yards in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks. Patterson started the game at running back with Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins both healthy inactives and continued to see time until early in the third quarter. Los Angeles' offense as a whole struggled to move the ball, especially in the first 30 minutes of the game, as Patterson's long of 16 yards came near the end of the first half with Seattle playing a prevent defense of sorts, content to let the Chargers effectively run out the clock. Neither Elijah Dotson (three carries, seven yards) or Isaiah Spiller (five carries, five yards) did much with their limited opportunities on the ground and it's also worth noting intriguing rookie Kimani Vidal also was held out of the exhibition, which appeared to be a coach's decision.
Easton Stick : Struggles mightily Saturday
Stick completed five of his 13 pass attempts for 31 yards and an interception in Saturday's 16-3 preseason loss to the Seahawks. He also carried the ball once for 12 yards. The Jim Harbaugh Era got off to a dreadful start in the exhibition game, as the Chargers had just one drive that went longer than five plays in the first half. Stick, who started Saturday's game due to Justin Herbert (foot) being sidelined, struggled mightily, often failing to hit wide receivers in stride or getting pressured off his plant spot immediately. A fifth-round draft pick back in 2019, Stick is expected to act as the team's backup QB provided he's able to hold off second-year quarterback Max Duggan in a training camp battle for the position.
