Latest Bengals News
Brad Robbins : Exits practice early
Robbins (undisclosed) exited the Bengals' practice early Tuesday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. Robbins walked off the field and went straight to the locker room at practice Tuesday, looking to be in some discomfort. It's unclear what exactly is ailing the punter, but he appeared to be favoring his right leg and more information on his status will likely be provided in the near future.
Jake Browning : Nursing rib injury
Browning did not participate at practice Tuesday due to a rib injury he sustained during Saturday's preseason game versus the Buccaneers, Ben Baby of ESPN reports. The exact severity of the issue is unclear, but Coach Zac Taylor said Tuesday that Browning would "miss some time." In his stead, Logan Woodside may see more opportunities to impress during drills.
Ja'Marr Chase : Misses first practice of camp
Coach Zac Taylor said Tuesday that Chase (undisclosed), who missed practice for this first time this training camp, is a situation the Bengals will monitor day-to-day, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Chase has yet to actually participate in practice in training camp, but until Tuesday he'd been present every day while in street clothes. It remains to be seen whether Chase's absence is related to an injury sustained during private workouts, a personal matter, or his ongoing contract dispute. In any event, it's a new development as the star wide receiver's 'hold-in' continues. The Bengals should provide further clarity about Chase's status in the near future.
Jackson Carman : Awful in preseason opener
Carman was flagged for three holding penalties and a false start in Saturday's preseason game against the Bucs, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. Dehner further speculates that Carman, the Bengals' 2021 second-round pick, could be at risk of getting cut, given his poor performance and rising cap cost.
Jake Browning : Struggles in preseason opener
Browning and the Bengals' second-team offense struggled in the preseason opener against the Bucs. Browning ended up completing 10 passes on 18 attempts for only 52 yards and an interception. Browning helmed seven drives against the Bucs, with only one lasting more than three plays, and that one ended in a missed field goal. It's only one preseason game, but Browning did not build off of last season's better-than-expected performance.
Amarius Mims : Out weeks with pectoral injury
Mims is expected to be sidelined several weeks due to a strained pectoral muscle, Ben Baby of ESPN reports. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that Mims' injury won't require surgery, but the rookie lineman is expected to miss Cincinnati's final two preseason contests and is a question mark for Week 1 of the regular season. Mims was selected with the 18th overall pick in April's NFL Draft and had been working with the first-team offense during training camp. He presumably suffered the pec injury during the Bengals' preseason opener Saturday versus Tampa Bay, during which he logged 15 offensive snaps.
Devonnsha Maxwell : Comes off PUP list
Maxwell (knee) passed a physical and was activated from the active/PUP list Monday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports. Maxwell missed all of last season due to a knee injury and continued to recover through the beginning of training camp. He appears to be past the knee issue and will now be able to both practice and participate in preseason contests. Maxwell is a long shot to make the Bengals' 53-man roster but could offer organizational depth as a member of the team's practice squad.
Mike Gesicki : Plays in preseason loss
Gesicki (undisclosed) played eight offensive snaps during Saturday's 17-14 preseason loss to the Buccaneers. Gesicki missed some practice reps last week due to tightness, but he was cleared to suit up for a handful of plays during Cincinnati's preseason opener. He didn't record any stats during the exhibition matchup, but that means little in such a small sample. Gesicki is competing to solidify himself as the clear top pass-catching option in Cincinnati's tight end room, and his next chance to showcase his talents in preseason action will come Saturday on the road against Chicago.
