Latest Patriots News
John Morgan : Reverts to IR
Morgan (undisclosed) reverted to New England's reserve/injured list Tuesday after going unclaimed off waivers, per the NFL transaction log. Morgan was waived/injured with an unspecified injury Monday. Now that he's on IR, he'll be forced to sit out for the entire 2024 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the Patriots.
Hunter Henry : Dealing with minor injury
Henry will miss practice Tuesday with an unspecified injury that isn't expected to be serious, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. The issue reportedly came up in Sunday's practice, with Henry then sitting out Monday and now set to miss at least one more session. He was rested for the preseason opener and now seems unlikely to play in Thursday's exhibition against the Eagles, but it doesn't sound like the Patriots are too worried about the tight end's availability for Week 1.
Demario Douglas : Moves past hand issue
Douglas (hand) has shed his red no-contact jersey, Mike Dussault of the Patriots' official site reports. Douglas, who had previously been wearing a no-contact jersey in practice as he managed what he described as a minor hand injury, sat out the Patriots' preseason opener last week. Now that he's back to working without any restrictions, the second-year pass catcher could see action in this Thursday's exhibition contest against the Eagles. As the coming season approaches, Douglas is poised to maintain a key/steady role in New England's WR corps, a context that should allow the 2023 sixth-rounder to remain on the fantasy radar regardless which QB ( Jacoby Brissett or Drake Maye) is throwing him passes.
Deshaun Fenwick : Back with New England
The Patriots signed Fenwick on Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Fenwick signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in late April, but he was waived by New England on Aug. 2. Now that he's back, he'll resume competing against JaMycal Hasty and Terrell Jennings for a depth spot at running back.
Kevin Harris : Projected No. 3 RB
Harris carried eight times for 22 yards and a TD and caught one of his three targets for six yards in Thursday's 17-3 preseason win over the Panthers. In his latest 53-man roster projection, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site predicts that Harris will stick as the team's No. 3 running back to begin the coming season behind Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. Per Lazar, Harris -- a 2022 sixth-rounder -- "won't 'wow' you with elusiveness or pass-catching ability, but he runs hard between the tackles and has displayed better vision working off zone blocks." Also competing for depth slotting in New England's backfield are JaMycal Hasty and Terrell Jennings, and one or both could potentially end up on the practice squad following cut-downs.
Hunter Henry : Doesn’t play Thursday
Henry didn't play in Thursday's preseason opener versus the Panthers, Chad Graff of The Athletic reports. Per Zack Cox of the Boston Herald, Henry suited up Thursday but did not play, so it's possible that the tight end could be managing a minor injury. In any case, while there's plenty of snaps up for grabs in the Patriots' crowded WR corps, Henry's standing as the team's top TE appears secure ahead of Week 1.
K.J. Osborn : Brief appearance Thursday
Osborn logged four snaps in Thursday's 17-3 preseason win over the Panthers, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. In his brief appearance in the Patriots' exhibition opener, Osborn wasn't targeted, but he did get his limited snaps in with the starting offense in a game which DeMario Douglas (hand) and Kendrick Bourne (knee, PUP) were unavailable for. As the coming season approaches, it's plausible that Osborn could secure a key role in the team's WR corps out of the gate, particularly if Bourne is out or limited come Week 1. While Douglas appears destined to have a steady role for the team, there's otherwise plenty left to be sorted out this preseason, with Osborn, Ja'Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, Tyquan Thornton, Kayshon Boutte and Jalen Reagor all competing for depth chart slotting.
Tyquan Thornton : Limited snaps Thursday
Thornton didn't catch his lone target in Thursday's 17-3 preseason win over the Panthers. Thornton logged just seven snaps in the contest, but it's notable that the speedster opened up the contest with the Patriots' starters. In his third season as a pro, the 2022 second-rounder is competing for a role in a wide open New England WR corps, but as Evan Lazar of the team's official site notes, Thornton's start and subsequent quick exit Thursday could bode well for his roster standing.
